Why is Domain Authority Important?

If you are an estate agent, your website is your most important marketing tool. It allows potential clients to find out more about you and what services you offer, as well as view any properties you currently have listed. The higher your domain authority, the better it will be for search engine rankings.

Many of our clients have found that by increasing their domain authority, they have seen a positive effect on their website’s sales and lead generation.

How is Domain Authority Calculated?

Google has kept pretty quiet about how it calculates domain authority, but some SEO experts believe that a secret sauce includes: Page rank, incoming links, website structure, and social sharing. So, all estate agents should work towards improving their domain authority by remembering the all-important 4 ingredients to success.

  1. Page rank
  2. Incoming links (backlinks)
  3. Website structure
  4. And social sharing

How to Increase Domain Authority?

When it comes to increasing your website’s domain authority, there are a number of ways you can go about doing so. Below, are my favourite strategies to help estate agents rank their websites, and where we always like to start when working with a new client or business.

How to Increase Your Estate Agency’s Domain Authority

Get Listed in Directories

One of the most important ways to increase your Domain Authority is by getting your estate agency listed in directories. There are many local and regional directories, as well as national ones, and all of them will be happy to list you on their website if you submit your details – for free!

This means that directory listings are great for estate agents who may not have much of an online presence, but would like to get some quick wins via search.

Not only will these business directories help with your website’s Domain Authority and ranking, but they boost your Google business listing, and allow potential customers to find you through multiple other channels and websites too.

Write Great Content

It sounds obvious, but I can say from experience that writing great content is easier said than done. However, it doesn’t have to be difficult if you follow these steps: 1) identify your target audience; 2) create informative and useful content; 3) promote your content (this part is where most people make mistakes); 4) rinse and repeat! In time, this approach will help your estate agency rank higher on search result pages.

For extra brownies points, include internal links from your blog pages to other pages within your site, like relevant posts/articles, lead generation forms, or location pages.

These internal links from your great content will help SEO spread throughout your website, reduce bounce rate, and increase conversions and engagement. Get more tips on writing killer blog posts.

If you want your estate agency website to be found in Google and other search engines, you’ll need a strong backlink profile.

Backlinks are links from one website to a page on another. Google and other major search engines consider backlinks ‘votes’ for a specific page. The more votes a particular page has from other sites, the better its chances of having a higher ranking.

There are various types of backlinks you could go for, but as a local business, I would start with local businesses within your target market.

How to Focus on Localised Link-Building Campaign?

Local link building is the process of building contextually and/or locally relevant links to your estate agency website. Not only does this help your Domain Authority, but it gives so some highly valued local backlinks too. A win-win.

As with any link-building campaign, local link-building requires research, hard work, perseverance, and creativity. Here is a list of local link-building tactics to get you started:

  • Get links from local partners such as solicitors
  • Get links your competitors have
  • Reclaim lost links
  • Create locally relevant content and share it everywhere within your local community
  • Get local citations
  • Collaborate with local events, markets and charities
  • Sponsor local events, schools and community centres
  • Join your local BNI group and work with them to create a strong local backlinking strategy
